Charles is naturally a highly optimistic person, determined to be charitable to his friends and even in most cases to complete strangers. His rather "cushy" childhood helped to breed this nature in him as Charles never went without and felt a strong need to share that with the people around him who were less fortunate. However, what Charles was lacking in one respect growing up was affection from his parents. With his mother remarried after the death of his father, Charles spent a lot of his time seemingly being more so taken care of by nannies or the hired help leaving him with an emptiness where that love and security of family was suppose to be.

Though he comes off as a very logical and rational person at times, Charles is a sensitive and sometimes extraordinarily naive young man. He refuses the idea that anyone or anything can be labelled a "lost cause" and continuously to find redeeming characteristics in even the darkest individuals and situations. Without that hope, Charles would suddenly find himself with nothing to fight for, nothing to strive for and no reason to attempt to find a cause. Where hatred and rage fuel Erik on to his destiny, compassion and understanding are the backbone of Charles outlook on not only the cause of mutants, but his own relationships with the people around him.

Charles also feels obligated to better the world for all because one day he had the frightening notion that he is in fact, a God among men. The nature and gravity of his powers in fact sometimes isolates and terrifies him. Though he never shows this side to even those closest to him. No truer words were spoken in Charles mind then the idea that with such great powers comes even greater responsibility. He lives by the philosophy of "being the better man" and so far has not wavered from that path for one instant.
